QUESTION OF A TITLE.

In view of the sculling race between Hanan and Arnst haying-been fixed to be rowed on the Waikato River on 25th October, a controversy has arisen with icference to Hannan's claim to the Australasian title. To-day Mr. G. Ceruti, of Sydney, ; as honorary secretary, has published a letter from the New South Wales Sculling..League, which' in effect confirms the cable message claiming M'Devitt as the Australasian champion. Hannan, in reply, referred to Mr. H. deal's published interview on behalf of the Auckland Committee controlling the Hannan-M'Devitt race on the Waitemata, in which interview Mr. Cleal stated M'Devitt admitted after Hannan had beaten him that Hannan was champion.
