ALLEGED FORGERY
FALSE CHEQUE CHARGES
The hearing* was continued at tho Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Salmond and a, jury of twelve, of Victor Roacho Bond, charged with forgery of two cheques,of a face value.of £12. Mr. P. S. K. Maeassoy prosecuted, and . Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell represented accused. ,
1 Ihis morning the Crown evidence was completed by expert witnesses as to handwriting. These pointed out points of similarity which they considered-ex-isted, between the false signature on tho cheques, the signature in the bank register when a cheque book was obtained, and samples qf writing by accused. In opening the defence, Mr. Treadwell said the .Crown relied on classes of evidence which required corroboration. There was .the evidence as to identification of accused as the man who got the cheque book at tlio bank and signed the register. \He proposed to show that the accused was not at the bank on the day in question, and could not be the man who got the book. He submitted that the (evidence of the typewriter .experts .was at variance, and was quite unreliable. The,evidence as to the similarity in handwriting, would-also bo contradicted by witnesses for .the defence, who would say there was no similarity. Expert evidence was then called for the defence. - ■: ".**.- (Proceeding.)
