MANAWATU

PALMERSTON N., This Day. Dr. Elizabeth Qunn, the medical officer for the Wanganui Board of Education, is visiting the schools in Palmerston North.

Mr. C. B. Lye, formerly of the local staff of the Defence Department, is temporarily attached to the Hansard staff at Parliament Buildings, Wellington. The annual gathering of parents and teachers was held at the Boys' High School, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., chairman of the Board of Governors, presiding. Short addresses were given by the chairman and by the rector (Mr. J. Murray, M.A.), while musical items were rendered and refreshments provided. The election of officers for the </:suing year resulted:—Honorary secretary, Mr. J. Murray; treasurer, Mr. R, A. Fuller; auditor, Mr. R. Davis; executive, Mesdames Palmer, Pacey, Rodgers, J. C. Young, C. Louisson, and J. F. Bosworth, Messrs. A. W. Gallichan, J. F. Pasley, J. SI. Rose, W. Thompson; Crossley, and C. Fraser.

_ At an early date alterations and additions are to be carried out to the local Courthouse, which will provide muchneeded additional accommodation. The new portion to be erected will provide for a Judge's room, with robing chamber adjacent, a room for the Judge's associate, and a robing room for barristers.
