(BT TELEQRAPH.—SPECIAL TO THE POST.) ' CARTERTON, This Day. At the annual, meeting "of the South Wairarapa Working Men's Club, Greytown, the following officers were elected : President, Mr. H. G. Carter; vicepresident, Mr. F. Dennis; committee, Messrs. W. Day, F. Best, D. Jewell, and C. Lord. Trophies as follow were presented : Billiards, Messrs. R. Williams, T. Asher, C. G. Bouzaid; snooker, Messrs. W. Maxton, F. Ryan, ' R. Williams; crib, Messrs. W. Kmipp and R. Williams; euchre, Messrs. W. J. Feast and A. M'Kay. Mr. W. E. Knowles, first assistant at the Dalefield. Cheese Factory, has been appointed manager at Umutoaroa, Dannevirke.
A sitting of the Native Land Court, presided over by Judge Gilfedder, is being held at Gieytown. A meeting of creditors in the banknipt estate ot Aage Peter Ornberg, o! Carterton, farmer, was held yesterday. The statement showed that in December, 1917, bankrupt purchased 114 acres at £80 an acre, paying down £1000, principally borrowed,- and leavinc; four mortgages on the place, totalling" £10.----570. The unsecured creditors, which included £750 of the £1000 deposit, paid on the farm, totalled £816 15s 7d. and the deficiency in the estate, £5286 los 7d. There were no assets. Bankrupt attributed his failure: to the fall m the price of butter-fat, as he purchased on a 2s 6d per lb basis. Creditors complained that they had not been made aware that the milk cheques from the farm had been assigned to' the H.F.C.A., who had collected them, wlule other creditors did the work' to enable the farm.to be carried on. Bankrupt pointed out that this firm was to have paid the farm accounts, and as it was, stood to lose £1200. The circumstances, were considered unfortunate bankrupt having been a hard toiler caught by the slump.
MASTERTON, This Day. The annual report of the Masterton A. and P. Association shows that, the total profit on the last show was £377 13s, as against £236 19s 3d. the previous year. The principal increase in receipts were donations £94, gates £63. The commission from the sale of, show stock was £23. After writing off £496 3s 6d, for depreciation, the balance of assets over' liabilities stand at £5344 10s 2d, as compared with £5970 12s 5d for the previous year, being a decrease' of £96 2s 3d.
Mr. A. C. Bowman, at present on the staff of the Masterton Central School, has been appointed first assistant at Lyall Bay, and will take up his duties on 9th September. The Masterton A. and 1\ Association has a. membership of 1315, and members' subscriptions received during ™c twelve months just ended amount-
