CHEESE.

Market quiet and steacty. Official quotations are:—English, finest farmers' new season's in demand. 21st June, 88s to 90s per cwt (9-id to 9Jd per lb). Canadian, finest and fine, new season's. 21st June, white and coloured, 86s to 88s por cwt (9Jd to 9Jd per ]b). New Zealand. 21st June, white and coloured, 90s to 32s per' cwt (93d to 10d_ per lb). Shipment of New Zealand produce arrived last week per s.s. Ruahine.

HEMP.

Demand for Maniia good again, and market was strong all this week, closing somewhat easier. Business has been done in "J" grade, May-July shipments at £40, and value. Quotations May-July shipments, £40 15s. June-August shipments, £41 per ton and value. Business in New Zealand hemp is reported at high point fair, £36 15s to £38, and fair £35 10s per ton, July-September shipments.

WOOL.

Bradford position is not changed, and is causing great anxiety. Factories working on .half time. Prices for tops: 64's (merino), 5s 9d; 56's (super halfbred). Ss Ud; 40's (prepared coarse crossbred)," 3s 3d.

APPLES.

A few of the Port Brisbane and Hertford shipments still on hand, but market may bo entirely cleared before arrival of next steamer, and prices have firmed somewhat on account of the reported shortage Tasmanian outlook better, and arrival of apples from other Australian States are superior to earlier shipments. Prices:—Port Brisbane shipment: Jonathan, 16.1 to 18s per case. Maimoa shipment: Stunners, 15s to 18a; Statesman. 15s; Dunn's Favourite, 14s to 15s- Premier, 15s to 16s; Delicious. 10s to 18s'NiMVton Pippin, 16s to 17s; Cleopatra, 16s to 17s 6d; London Pippin (repacked). 11s io 355; Jonathan 15s To 17s. An address on the subject of "Evolution" was delivered by Mr. V. G. Rampton at the Princess Theatre, Manners street, on Sunday evening.
