HUTT A DEFEAT KARORI
FIRST ROUND COMPLETED
SEXIOR. KESULTS. Hutt A 2 Karorl 0 Wellington 4 Wesley 0 'Varsity 3 Wakatu 2 Hutt -B 2 Petone 1 Slippery grounds were no doubt responsible for the mediocre displays givenin the senior hockey contests on Saturday afternoon, when the games for the completion, of the first round of the competition were decided. Karori went down to Hutt A at Karori Park No. 1, after a somewhat disappointing exhibition. The game was very willing all through, but the Karori men found the trained methods of the Maroons too much of a proposition. Wellington met Wesley on the adjacent ground at Karori Park, and an uninspiring 'but hard game resulted, in which Wesley showed marked improvement. More by good luck than by good play 'Varsity inflicted defeat on Wakatu at Newtown Park. Both teams missed many opportunities of scoring. Hutt B registered their secpnd win at the expense of Petone at Hutt Park. The two teams provided a fairly even tussle. A full programme of games in the lower men's grades was played. All ladies' matches were postponed.
