HOROWHENUA'S GOOD SHOWING

PALMERSTON N., 22nd "June.

Manawatu defeated. Horowhenua yesterday in the first representative match of the seasonr (which was played at Foxton) by 19 points to 11. The vis-j itors had the better of .the first spell, and scored two unconverted tries. After the interval both sides made the pace fast, and 24 points were added. The respective full-backs —Cowie (Manawatu) and Meta Johnstone (Horowhenna) —were the star backs, of which division Mullins, Earle, and Seeker (Manawatu), and Pahiwi and D'Ath (Horowhenua) were also outstanding players. In the forwards, Leeder, Carroll, and Gothard (Manawatu), and Jacob, M'Hearon, and R. Bronghton (Horowhenua) were conspicuous for consistent work. The scorers for Manawatu were : Carroll (2), Bailey, and Leeder (tries); Akuira kicked a penalty goal, and Mullins and Le'eder kicked goals from tries. For Horowhenua, R. Bronghton, M'Herron, and Voynihan scored tries, and Jacob kicked a goal.
