Play which was full of thrills and excitement until the final whistle marked the meeting of the Hospital v. Y.M.C.A. teams at Poriraa. There had been no rain at Poiinia, and the conditions generally were first-class when V.M.C.A. kicked off against the sun. They at once attacked, and Bollard tried with a long shot, which went wide. After Hospital had cleared a free kick for hands, they obtained ono lor a similar oqence by tho visitors, and Gibb. obtaining, sent in a fast shot, just wide of the post. Several free-kicks occurred for minor infringements, and neither toam seemed able to settle down, owing to the keen tackling of the halves. M'Girr then sent out a nice pass to Ballard, and the latter made a good solo effort, only to find his shot blocked. Kindmarsli then got away on tho left wing, taking the ball well down field, and ;i, corner was awarded. This was well placed by Hindmarsh, and Phillips, dashing in headed a fine goal. V.SI.C.A. 1-0. Several free-kicks in succession came to Hospital, but did not help them much, as the defence., M'Girr and M'Arthur in particular, was very stubborn. Case then sent the ball smartly to Gibb, who forced Tarrant to bring oft a very clever save. Campbell, who was well watched, kept his wings supplied, and in one fine rush, Trewick cleared with a lucky speculator. Again V.M.C.A. attacked, but Thompson and J. Ferguson were playing strongly afc back, and spoilt many "promising movements. Then a fine piece of play by Case altered the aspect of the game. He cleverly intercepted, and sent the ball to Gibb, and the Litter sent on to Lambert, who, when blocked, slipped back to Gibb. The latter sent in a fast shot which gave Tarrant no chance. 1-1. With the scores level the game became very fast, and both sides missed a chance to gain the lead, through over-eagernes.i in front of goal. Half-time' arrived shortly after, with V.M.C.A. attacking from a free kick.

Some clever play between Ballard and Hmdmarsh marked the opening stages, and then Hospital broke away, only to be pulled up for off-side play. Robinson again set the home team away, and nice combination between Lambea-t and Hughes took play close in, where a defender handled in the penalty area. D. Ferguson took the kick, but made a poor attempt. This escape brought V.M.C.A. down, in a great rush and Campbell, being bustled, shot wide. M'Girr initiated a fine passing run between Hindmarsh, Bollard, and Camp, bell, but Ferguson saved at the crucial moment by giving a corner, from which Trewick made a splendid save. Hospital took a hand, and Lambert got away after nice play by Robinson, and working in. field sent in a beautiful shot, which was equally well saved by Tarrant. As the game was drawing to a close, Hospital obtained a corner, which was well placed by Lambert, and tho ball, eventually coming to D. Ferguson, he netted close in. Hospital 2-1. Hughes and Gibb were again almost through, but offside play stopped them. V.M.C.A. made a desperate effort to equalise, and with five minutes tb go, were awarded a penalty kick.
