TAURANGA TRAINS
RAILWAY TO BE COMPLETED IN THREE YEARS.

TAURANGA, 2Cth June. In connection with the official opening of the railway into Tauranga for regular traffic, thus giving the town rail connection with Te Puke, Matata, and the eastern districts of the Bay of Plenty, an official luncheon was tendered to representatives of all local bodies from Waim to Opotiki and. Rotorua. The Mayor, Mr. B. Dive, presided, and between sixty and seventy guests were present. The chairman, in proposing the toast of the Minister of Public Works, expressed the opinion that if he were left to carry on his policy it would be in the best interests of New Zealand.
Mr Macmillan, M.P., who replied on behaJf of the Minister, said'the finest testimony to his work was the manner in which the' Public Works Statement was received by all sides of the House. Major Hawke, representative of the Armstrong, Whitworth Company, who havo_ the contract to complete the remaining link of the railway between here and Waihi, in replying to the toast, of the visitors, said he was contident the work would be pushed through in contract time, which is three years. A special train with the visitors left on the return journey at 4 o'clock. Kain xcll during the greater part of the day.
