GRASS FIRES CLAIMS
DAMAGES AWARDED IN SUPREME COURT. (BY \ EI.EGIIAPH'.—PitKsa ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, 20th June. After a hearing extending over seven days, the case in which Robert Keir M'Cuudless, farmer, of Parnassus, claimed £j.913 10s, and Alister Malcolm M-]<'arlane £4100 iicm isorman Rutherford, Mendip Hills, for damages alleged to have bei;n done by a grass me which spread from defendant's property,
was concluded m the Supreme Court today. The jury found for plaintiffs by a .three-fourths majority, Mucfarlane was awarded £SCQ damages and M'Caudless £526. An' application by counsel icr defendant to move for a nonsuit and a new trial on the ground that the verdict was against the weight of evidence was granted.
