ALLEGED THEFT

A young man named John Alexander' Fettes, described as a clerk, appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M.,'at the Magistrate's Court to-day on a charge of omitting to account for £66 10s 10d, received from the New Zealand Express Co., and requiring him to account for same .to Norman Baker and Longhurst, Ltd.: Chief-Detective Kemp said the accused was extradited from Sydney, and arrived in Wellington' yesterday. He asked for a remand to the 16th: May. Mr. J. F. B. Stevenson, who appeared lor accused, applied for bail. '"'■'.

The Chief-Detective opposed the application. The accused, he said, was married on the day before he left for Sydney, and saw fit to leave his wife the day after he married her.
