ST. MARY'S, KARORI

Presiding at the annual meeting of parishioners of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Karori, the vicar, the Rev. G. Y. Woodward, remarked that during the past year there had been a substantial increase in the number of communions made in the year, and the parishioners had been very generous to outside activities in the diocese and mission field.

The churchwarden's report stated that the past year, had been one of progress, but the coming year would probably show a much greater expansion, owing to the much-increased population and the advent of the Marsden School. The general offertories showed an increase of £20, but the receipts from subscriptions showed a falling-off of £23. As considerable financial effort would be required this year, the vestry hoped that new residents would become regular subscribers. The parishioners had continued- their generosity to missions and other church efforts outside of their own parish, giving £146 during the year. The balance of the parish general account was very satisfactory. Cash in hand with subscriptions, etc., still to come, less liabilities at 31st March, amounted to £44. The new parish hall, opened during the year, had cost just under £2000, and there was now a net debt of £325. The total rents received during the year, less cost of lighting, license,' caretaker's wages, etc., left a net credit of £69. The vestry was indebted to the Ladies' Guild for an addition of £163 to the parish funds. This sum was paid in to the parish hall building fund. The Sunday school continued to progress, and its account was very satisfactory. During the present year the financial efforts of the parish should be directed to the liquidation of the £325 debt on the hall, and starting a fund to enlarge, if not complete, the church, as the increasing population and the advent of the Marsden Collegiate School would make this an urgent need in the near future.
