FOR THOUSANDS,

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received. 3rd May, 10.30.. a.m.) LONDON, 2nd May. The Geneva' correspondent of the "Daily Express" states that Mrs. Taintor, a handsome middle-aged American with a charming manner, has been ar'vested and charged with frauds totalling an immense sum. Police records supplied to the chief European capitals show that Tuintor and his wife arrived in Europe from New York in 1918.. and joined up with an intenational gang of swindlers who lived liko millionaires at the expense of their dupes. The Taintora then worked the Paris hotels independently till 1920, when they were sentenced to two years' imprisonment for issuing false cheques, the sentence later being reduced to six months and deportation. Tain tor went to Rome and became engaged to a countess, who was persuaded to accompany him to America with her fortune. Mrs. Taintor went to Brussels, where she committed frauds totalling £100,000 within a year. She was arrested at Munich and taken to Brussels, where she was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. When liberated, Mrs. Taintor came to Zurich with a retinue of servants and resumed her lux-' urious hot-el social life as a fascinating widow and a self-declared heiress. She found new victims, becoming engaged separately io three of the wealthiest residents, who showered presents upon her before their suspicions were aroused.
