CLUB'S SUSPENSION
CANTERBURY-MARIST DISPUTE.
Further matters arising out of the suspension of the Marist Bros.' Club, Christchurch, by the Canterbury Rugby Union, came under the notice of the New Zealand Rugby Union's Management Committee last evening. The Auckland union advised that it had, ' received a letter from the Auckland Marist Club asking that the following clauses set oufi in the letter be forwarded to tho N.Z.R.U.:—Clause- 3: "That this meeting respectfully suggests that in order to prevent a similar happening in. Lho future, tho N.Z.R. U. should consider the , advisability of so amending its constitution as' to enable a club suspended..for any reason whatever to appeal to some arbitration body." Clause. 4; "Tha'fc the N.Z.R.U. be asked if in its opinion tlie Canterbury Rugby Union was justified in suspending without a hearing and . subsequently cancelling tbo affiliation of the Christchurch "Marist Club for its refusal to apologise for and withdraw the letter in dispute." The chairman (Mr. S. S. Dean) : "In -regard to Clause 3, I do not think there is any reason for us to alter our constitution." He pointed out that it -was now possible, in view of the disqualification by unanimous vote of the delegates, for the Marist Club to appeal. A Member: "Even if they have gone over to League?" ■Mr. E. Wylie: "Well, of course, they have gone over as individuals." Mr. 0. L. Mullany stated that the whole "outfit" had gone over to League. The Chairman: "As a matter of fact I was expecting something- from Canterbury. We should ask the Canterbury union for a report of their last meeting dealing with tho Marist Bros.1 Club in Christchurch.''
It was decided to notify the Canterbury Rugby Union that their rules1 cue in conflict with the New Zealand Rugby Union, and request that the rules bo brought into line.
It was also decided that. Auckland be informed that it is not the function ot the N.Z.R.U. to reply to questions raised by the Marist Club, except when a matter is raised officially on appeal. The chairman considered that' tho Canterbury Rugby Union should be asked to report the names of nil Rugby players who have gone over to League. -Mr. C. i-. Mutlany: ".Should not all unions do. that;''
The Chairman: "Canterbury have not done so.''
