A QUESTION OF COMMITTEES

. AUCKLAND, 30th April. The question of appointing joint committees of . employers and employees, in accordance with the provisions of the new Apprentices Act, was discussed at a conference representative of employers and workers, with the Arbitration Court. Mr. Justice Frazer said that the object was to consider whether it was advisable to have one big award covering the building trades, or whether each trade should have its individual committees. ■
Mr. Blood worthy, on behalf of the workers, generally supported large committees, but Mr. Wright, representing a number of special trades, was opposed to such committees.
Mr. Justice Frazer said that he expected that both employers and workers would put on committees men of sound commonsense, who would do their- duty both to apprentices and.employers without fear or favour. The whole working of the Act would depend on the good sense^of members of these committees ihe Court would endeavour to fix a date tor hearmg recommended from any committee appointed. : Decision was reserved m regard to the adv.sabibty of appointing large or mdi Vld"a, l committees.
