IMPORTS FROM GREAT BRITAIN

The British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand (Mr. Noel Elmslie) has been taking out trade percentages from Customs returns with the result that he finds a satisfactory increase in'imports from Great Britain. In 1914 the percentage of New Zealand imports was 51.51 per cent. Omitting the war years, when all trade was dislocated., and Great Britain was busy on war work, rather than, manufacturing for markets, the percentage in 1921 was 48.51; for 1922, it was 52.23; and it fell back in 1923, because of very heavy imports of motorcars from foreign countries and Canada. But for the first two months of 1924 the average has risen to 53.32 per cent, of the Dominion's imports coming from the United Kingdom. The Commissioner expresses himself as'gratified with the results for 1924, so far as they have gone.
