Cambridge won the boat race in bright sunshine. There was a very light northeasterly: breeze, and the water was smooth. -'Cambridge won the toss., and chose th« Surrey station. Oxford, rowing a slightly faster stroke, led, at the start, but at the, mile post 4Cambridge were slightly ahead. Time, tauu Isec. The Cantabs", rowing beautifully, held a length" advantage at the Hammersmith Bridge, whicn was reached in 7min 36sec. and three lengths' lead at Chiswick Eyot. Time Umin 28sec. ' Soon after this Oxford spurted and gamed on tha leaders, but were ragged m their work. Cambridge made Barnes Undge in 15min 31sec, with a lead of "A lengths, and ultimately won by tl lengths. , 2 The official time was 18min 41sec.
