AMATEUR ATHLETICS
WILSON BENEFIT MEETING,
Apart altogether from the purpose for which it is being held,-next Saturday's meeting1, at the Athletic Park will be well worth attending. The final^interciub contests for the Dewar Shield will take place, with every probability of a very keen fight for possession of ■ the trophy between the leaders, the Wellington and Victoria College Clubs. The former club, as its • contribution to the gathering, is putting the Bhmdell Cups up for the annual intercollege and primary schools contests. The intercollege events are arousing keen interest. Now that Jenkins and Lawson have left, the Wellington : College team will need to strain.every-nerve to win. Great interest attaches to the appearance of Jenkins. -■ His'-win'in the Dominion sprint championship: at Dunedin last Saturday was not unexpected by those'who witnessed his decisive defeat of Tracy in a 100 yds Handicap at the Selwyn Club's evening -meeting a: fortnight ago. He has improved nearly '2yds since the provincial championships in January, and on Saturday, with a good track, lie should go-close-to lOsec. Tracy is likely tc do better than at Dunedin. The Levin distance runner, Dufresne, who is hailed by. southern critics as a real ehampun, is a probable competitor, and there will b e considerable' interest in the appearance of Miss Swinburne, whose 11 H-ssec on the heavy track at Dunedin was withm l-ssec of the world's record for a woman. There is a possibility of .miss Grant coming up from Christchurch to compete against her.
