CIVIL SERVICE COMPETITIONS.

The two swimming events ■ which decided the destination for the season of the Ward Challenge Shield—a shield which is competed for between Civil Services—were held at Xc Aro Baths last evening. Final: Fordham (Native Department), 1; Broughton (P. and T ) 2; Hill (P. and T.), 3; Cowdel) (P and T.), 4. Time,. 29 2-ssec. Won by a foot.

10Q Yards Handicap.—L. R. Davie* (Treasury), 22sec, 1; E. Patterson (Land and Income), scr, 2; C. J. Barrett (Public Health), lOsec, 3; J. Burke (Railway Department), lOsec, 4. Davies won by ten yards. Patterson swam a splendid race. Time, 72 l-ssec.
