ST MARY OF THE ANGELS

Midnight Mass was celebrated' at St.- Mavy of the Angels by the Eev. Father Mahoney, assisted by tha Rev. Fathers Murphy and M'Carthy. The church was beautifully decorated for the most solemn' Occasion. -Black and gold was used as a background. to the altar and sacristry. On the altar itself were lighted candles and blooms of varied colouring. The crib was also another feature, and this was visited by many devout parishioners before and after the service. Long before midnight people began entering the church, and in a very short time the spacious seating cacommodation was overtaxed. The service was Gounod's Messe S.olennelle' (St. Cecilia). For the occasion a special orchestra was obtained, and, assisted by the organ, was successful in giving a masterly rendering of tho music. The choir answered readily at all times to the baton; of the conductor. The solo work of Messrs. HamiltonHodges, « Fogarty, Fouhy, Mrs. Jones, and Miss A. M'Davitt, was particularly meritorious. The loss sustained by the choir through the removal of Mr. H. 'C. Gregory, the baritone soloist, to Hamilton, was a great one, but in spite of this handicap the solos were well managed. The, conductor was Signor A. P. Truda. The sermon was given by the Rev. Father Mahoney.
