At 12 o'clock on Monday night, solemn High Macs was celebrated at the Basilica,' Hill street. Father Smythi who spoke on the birth of Our Lord, and dwelt upon, the supreme importance of the event, and of Christ's teaching and sacrifice. There were services at the Basilica at 7, 9, and 10.30 o'clock in the forenoon—the preacher at the last service being the Rev. Father Spillane, who also spoke on the festival of Christ's nativity. There were large attendances at all the forenoon services.
