Though the outbreak of/ cattle disease has not definitely been diagnosed as rinderpest, most dfastic steps are being taken to prevent its spreading. The strictest quarantine has been established, and all animals showing symptoms arT? shot and incinerated.

The Chief Inspector of Stock in Queensland says that, if the disease proves to be rinderpest, the matter is very serious, but the dry climate and sunshine of Australia are points greatly in favour of stamping it out. ■
