The Portland Labour Convention adopted a resolution for the modification of the Volstead law, without a roll call, less than a fifth of the membership being mustered for a resolution approving the law. The convention asked for light wines and beer, declaring that between the lawless vendor of forbidden liquors on the one side and the lawless enforcement officer on the other side the public suffered irreparable damage owing to the subsequent diminution of respect for any law. . /
