THE FORESHORE ROAD
WORK AT BREAKER BAY.
Satisfaction was expressed by the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright) to-da"y with the progress being made with the construction of the Breaker Bay road around the foreshore from Lyall Bay to Seatoun. On paying a visit to the scene of operations this morning, he found that the work is almost finished, so far as it is proposed to carry it at the present time.; A good metal road has been laid down, which will be blinded and properly dressed off. The work will be finished in a few days. The distance already prepared is only about one-third of the total length that will finally be laid down between the two bays, and it is proposed to complete the contract next year, when certain negotiations in respect to the purchase of property, etc., are expected to be accomplished. It has been pointed out previously that when this strip of road is put through it will be the last link in one ot the finest level coastal drives south of the Line. efore the road will be attractive to motorists, however considerable improvement will have to be made in the surface around Point Halswell, and at other places where the seaside road skirts the Defence and Prison Reserve. The City Council now has controlling authority over that road, but certain difficulties are cropping u p 116 widining Sc^™; ;t will probably be necessary to restrict the ™,£ m "2?? places t0 less than the customary 66 feet on account of buildings on the foreshore.
