OUT.

(BT lILIGJAPH.—SPECIAL 10 THE POST.)

MASTERTON, This Day. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Railways, paid a short visit to the Wairarapa yesterday. He was accompanied by his private secretaries (Sir. T. R. Aickin and Mr. J. S. At Featherston, Greytown, Carterton, and Masterton the Minister received deputations and discussed with them matters of local interest. The question of the deviation of the Rimutaka line was brought before the Minister, who said that he recognised the importance of the work, and at the present time engineers and surveyors were engaged trying to improve on the' lay-out of the route chosen. Mr. Coates said that in his opinion the Tawa Flat deviation was of more importance than the Rimutaka deviation. However, the Government, had made promises in regard to the latter deviation, and he thought the promises should be carried out.
