IRONS AND RADIATORS
POWER RESTRICTIONS REMOVED
THE MAYOR THANKS CITIZENS.
The restrictions imposed by the City Corporation regarding the use of heating and power appliances, irons, radiators, motors, and the like, between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. during the winter months, have now been removed, and householders and others are free to go back to summer practice as regards their use. The three hours between 4 and 7 p.m. have been anxious hours for the officers directing power-house operations this winter, for during that period the demand for power piles up to a dangerous peak load, and the present producing plant has many times run closely to its limit, though the position this winter has been very much easier than it was last winter, when on© trouble after another at the power-house threatened a serious hold-up of current supplies. This year's better position exists notwithstanding the fact that there were during this winter spell 1030 more consumers than during the winter of 1922. The Mayor, Mr. R. A. Wright, stated this morning that he wished to express his own appreciation of the manner in which consumers generally had accepted the restrictions imposed, the number who did not fall into line being quite negligible, and had that not been the case it would have been impossible to supply full power to the increased number of consumers, for the sadly over-tried plant of last winter had not been added to in anything like the proportion of! the new connections made during the interval. In other words, the little incon- ! venience suffered by all usera of power j had enabled over a thousand more consumers to obtain the benefit of electric service. Had the restrictions not been so faithfully observed Wellington would probably have had the experience of another breakdown, more or l^ss serious. i
