RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Re the remarks of Mr. M'Gillivray in last evening's "Post" about tram traffic, his comparison of Winnipeg with Wellington, is rather ridiculous. Winnipeg—Centre, North, and South—has a population of about 200,000, whilo Wellington has much less. There is, how. ever, no need to go putsido of New Zealand for traffic comparisons. Take Auckland trains, which carry' 56,000 more than Wellington. Christ-church's population is also larger. I don't see where the "iirst" cars come in in Wellington, seeing they rim from 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. They iiro certainly well spread. Wellington ought to take example from, say, Duucdin, which, in. order to cope with nieh traffic some years ago, 'ouiJt 12 large cars, seating about 60. and carrying about 100 in all, and withal conceding 14 rides for Is. As to rush, anyhow, I don't know what would be sn'id of a milkman who complained that everyone wanted milk early in the morning, or of a newspaper office objecting to rush its papers round and supplying everyone at the one time. They, of 'course, rise to the situation.—l am, etc., • . RATEPAYER,"' ftb. August.
