BURGLARS ACTIVE

Burglars in the city have recently been paying particular attention to the premises of the Victoria Laundry Company, Limited. On 26th of last month the shop in Cambridge terrace was entered, and, on the ;s"ame evening the Ihorndon branch was broken'into. The intruders obtained only about £4 from both places, and the practice was then adopted by the company of not leaving any cash over-night in the shops. This proved a wise move, as a week after the first incident, the Thorndon sliop was against visited. The thieves were evidently disturbed, as nothing was stolen, although considerable damage was done to the door panel, and to the stock on the premises. An attempt to enter the adjoining shop of Mr. M. Walsh, a tobacconist, was made, but after tearing the wire netting from the windows, the burglars decamped.
