SCHOOL TEXT BOOKS
THE AUTHORISED LIST.
In view of the somewhat late issue of _ the authorised list of class books for primary schools, tho Minister of Educa*w l the ,Hon- C- J- Parr> h »s decided tnat for the year 1924, Education Boards may authorise teachers to adhere to the text books at present in uee, provided that any teacher who desires to adopt a different text book must make the change in accordance with the authorised list.
It is pointed out in a circular letter to the secretaries of boards that the list, so far as the purchase of any new books is concerned, operates immediately. As, however, nearly a ]l the books on the list are already in general use throughout the Dominion its continuation should result in a saving of expense to parents and particularly- to those who move from one part of the country to another. The issuing of the list does not make it obligatory for teachere to use text books if they prefer to do without them. In some schools, for example, no copy books are used, while in others no grammer and composition text books are used.
