The Railway Department came in for some scathing comment at a meeting of the Provincial Executive of the'Mid-Can-terbury Farmers' Union. A member, Mr. II Wills, proposed that the Department be asked to remove the charge for carrying a little pig feed in the trucks loaded with pigs going to Addingtou sale. He understood feed was allowed to be carried in the .racehorse boxes. Mr. Lill seconded, and said the revenue obtained! was very little. The change was another instance of " annoyance " that had ta be endured. The whole thing was a pettifogging affair, and much the same as. the system in the tramcars whereby if one nursed his bag be did not have to pay, but if one put it on the floor it -was "threepence, please." The president, ivt'r. G. W. Leadley,' said one would imagine that from a humane point of view the Department; would allow a little feed to be carried in the,pig trucks without, charge. The animals were often on the train for many hours without feed. That they would not allow a. little feed for dumb animals to be carried without charge was almost beneath contempt. The motion .was carried.
