WELLINGTON'S WELCOME
As a first venture in combining business and pleasure for the advancement of the city, Wellington's Welcome Week has certainly proved a. success. No doubt there are ways in which it could have been mad© more successful; but every movement must ha-ve a begining, and the beginning of this movement has plainly . demonstrated its possibilities. Country people -have come to Wellington, though perhaps not in such numbers as was desired,- amd have helped to establish the community of interest of city, and country. Many city people have found a new interest in the affairs of Wellington. They have discovered that both pleasure and profit may be gained from unselfish work for the advancement of. the town. In future, carnivals their assistance will no doubt be readily given. This in itself is no sniall gain, for the band of civic workers has always been small, and there are always gaps to be filled in the ranks of the enthusiasts. Another and a- notable gain from the week's activities is that the city people themselves have been taught something of the beauties and natural advantages of their home. They have been much in the habit of decrying the beauty and wealth of their town, but many of them have now had their eyes opened, and will realise that Wellington is a good place to live in, work in, and work for. For this they have to thank, the tireless workers who planned and carried through the carnival arrangements.
