STILL A CHAMPION
BUT PAYS TOO MUCH ATTENTION
TO FINANCE.
(Received 6th July, 9.30 a.m.)
VANCOUVER, sth July. Dempsey admits that he has never been more puzzled than he was by Gibbons. He declares that he could not hit him squarely.
_ Experts agree that Dempsey is physically as strong as ever, but that he pays too much attention to finance arid not enough to fighting, which is ruining his power of attack.
Luis Firpo.is elated at the result, and declares that if Dempsey could not drop the weaker Gibbons .he will have no chance against him. Jess Willard also expresses surprise.
_ Jack M'Auliffe, the > undefeated lightweight champion, who is a close follower of fight form, declares that while Dempsey is failing he is still ablo to defeat Luis Firpo, Jess Willard, and Harry Wills, becauso they fight too stiffly, while Gibbons is a master dodger.
Kearns, Dempsey's manager, has intimated that he will arrange a bout for Wills with the champion in September.
