KIRKWOOD LEADING AT GLENEAGLES.

Kirkwood, the Australian, with! a score of 71 (36 out. and 35 home), leads the field in the first of two qualifying rounds in the competition at Gieneagles, for a prize of 1000 guineas. After Kirkwood come J. Barnes (America), E. Bay, Jaffray, and Oke, all 73; Ross, A. G. Havers (the new British champion), John Brews, Frostick, and O'Neill, 74; Bower, Ritchie, Ball, Jewell, Twine, and Jangle (South Africa), 75. Among the others is J. Braid 76, and G. Duncan, who has been unwell for a few days, 77. A. Mitchell is- not competing. The "Daily Telegraph" says that a wealthy Londoner who is an enthusiastic golfer has made Kirkwood a tempting offer to become his private professional. Possibly Kirkwood may accept when ho concludes his tour with Walter Hagen in America. The team to represent the Waiwetu Club in its match with the Hutt Club on Saturday at the Waiwetu links is as follows:—H. Gwilliam, W. Whitehead, R. C. Kirk, K. Cook, C. W. Bamfield, E. O'Connell. G. Cook,. W. F. Taylor, W. Walker, M. Macaskill, A. Hobbs, A. Ramsden; emergencies, F. Austin and F. Hankin.
