TRAINING COLLEGE
SWIMMING- AND DEBATING.
The annual tournament between the students of the. Christchurch and Wellington: Training .Colleges' is now being held in Wellington. There are about 45 students from the south to compete with the local students in various events. The swimming and debating contests wera held . yesterday, and Wellington was successful in both. A Rugby football match is being played- this afternoon. . At the swimming sports held in the Tepid Baths there was an attendance of about 300 students ■ and., friends. ' Women's Diving—Miss Wilki 6 (Wellington) 1, Miss Knell (Wellington) 2, Miss _Bradley (Canterbury) 3. Points were awarded as follow: First, 5 points; second, 1.-S/ points; .third, 1 ■point. The honours" rested with Wellington, who had a stronsr representative team, by 60 points to 22 During the interval before the relay race, diving and swimming demonstrations were given by W. Sicks and D. Murrell. The officials were: H Paul (st-arter)i E. Fisher, and H. Henderson. Mr. P. Coira. thfe well-known swimming enthusiast, acted as judge in the diving events. The debating contest was held at theTraining College, Kelbuiii, last evening. The Canterbury speakers (Mr. Struthefs. Mjes Owen, and Mr.. Field) moved— "That Primary Education should be confined to State Schools." and the following speakers for Wellington Training College (Mr. Mavtin-Smith, Miss Grono, Mr. Thomas! opposed. In an even contest the Wellington speakers won" by the small margin of 6 points ; the scores being 72 (Wellington), 66 (Canterbury)
