PENALTY FOR ROUGH PLAY.

A special meeting of the Wellington Hockey Association was held on Wednesday to consider two complaints in regard to alleged rough play. Mr. Richards presided, and there also, were present Messrs. M'Kenzie, Butcher, Fildes, Thomson, Martin, Whithair, Hatch, and Teward.

In connection with a-complaint by Mr. A. J. Cathie, a referee, in regard to the rough play of a member of the Wakatu Club, the meeting decided that the player in question had been guilty of forcefill arid rough tactics.:' The explanation offered by the offender was that when reaching.after the ball during a bully, he had slipped and unintentionally butted the man in front of him. Several witnesses were called, and it was decided that the guilty player be suspended for one playing Saturday.

That he had 1 deliberately struck a; Wakatu player was the allegation against a. member of the Huia Club, who was found guilty and cautioned. The facts were admitted, but. the offender maintained that he retaliated only after the other man had deliberately struck him. ■■ Both offenders announced that " they had done with the game."
