"GREY AND WHITE"

CHARACTER OF BOYS

ADDRESS BY BEY. FEILDEN

TAYLOR,

Helpful advice to boys was freely given by the Rev. T. l?eiiden Taylor, when speaking at the annual reunion of the Stop Out Club last evening. "I want to address you," said Canon Taylor, "and say something that yon will not forget for' years. L am a vevy worried man, very worried, becauso I spend moat of my time in 'Irving to get a chap to cultivate the best of his tiaUiro and so.kill the worst. Thi'i'e is sunii)thing good and something bad in all of us, and to me'life has consisted in cultivating the good, and thereby killing the bad. I want to say something Hint at least one or two of you will curvy away. Speech is one of the most golden things in the world if, by it, you can drop some golden thought, that, will sink right down, into someone's heiirt, and in years to come make a mall of him. We lire a confoundedly mixed typo hero. Some of you have not learnt yet to wash your mouths. We are a, mixed crop of good and 'grey' fellows. I say 'grey.' because I live in the truth that there is good iix each one of us ; but I am not going to be content till the grey gets whiter in the man as the days go by ; that is our objective. Life "is a huge game, and life is a jolly good game if you just play it cleanly. So let us try before the next reunion to become a little less grey, and a little more white. L also want to say this: J?rogjess is barred by want of boldness. If you want to progress at all you have to bo bold. You have to know that you possess the capacities of a. man, and you don't want to lie afraid of anybody. There .is no position in life that'you' cannot attain to i£ you have your capacity. The trouble with the world to-day is that it is. too lazy. That is its gospel, and it is the same in the office or the club. The motto is 'That will do,' and when we say that we are always doing less than we are capable of. "You have got to remember this: I am what I am through solid self-con-trol, and you must know that self-con-trol is the greatest thing in life. If you have any respect, for me you will go and make the very best' of yourselves, as yoa are. In regard* to your club, I will say that it will last 'just a.« long as you fellows experience ,the spirit of camaraderie, and pull together. It is your club, so make up your mind that you are "if ; then, if 150 'its' pull together with a long, - steady stroke you will have.no idea .what .tho club, will accomplish in this city.. Show what you are, not by words, for' ..talk; is ' cheap stuff, but by what, you do"
