STILL DELAYED
APPOINTMENT OF PUBLIC SER' VICE COMMISSIONER.
The delay in appointing a Public Service Commissioner was considered at a. meeting of the Wellington section of the Public Service Association yesterday. The following: motion was carried:— ■
'That the Wellington section of the N.Z. Public Service Association publicly protests against the delay in the fillin? of the vacancy of Public Service Conrmissioner. ,The prime function of this officer is to protect the service from political influence, particularly in regard to appointments thereto and to promotions; yet these important duties have for three months been, carried on by an officer in a temporary capacity, himself removable at will by the politicians. The section considers the existing position amounts to a. scandal, and hopes that its protests will be supported by the Press which stands for non-political control of the service, and also by every member of Parliament who is desirous of protecting the integrity of the Public Service of this Dominion."
