AUCKLAND, 23rd May. In the Supreme Court, a jury awarded £250 damages to Regent Guy Belloc, petitioner in, a divorce action, against Berti Stephenson Twidle, co-respondent, and a decree nisi against his wife, on the grouud of adultery.
INVERCARGILL, 23rd May. In the Supreme Court; to-day, John Francis Scully, convicted of the theft of a. war Joan certificate belonging to his mother, was 1 ad.mitted to probation for two years, on condition that he takes out a prohibition order and does not frequent racecourses or bet. John Scully, charged with perjury, was fined £10. The Judge stated that the accused had nothing to gain by his statements. John Thomas. Gvvynne, licensee of the Boya] Mail Hotel, Lumsden, was found guilty on -a cha_rg§ of procuring an instrument, knowing that it was intended to be used for an unlawful purpose, and also of supplying an instrument for an unlawful purpose. The hearing of evidence pecupied all day. Sentence w^s deferred til} to-morrow morning. John Forrester, an elderly man, was charged with indecent assault on a girl twelve years of age. The case lasted all day, and the jury, after four hours' retirement, disagreed, and a n.ew trial was' ordered "at the present sessions.
