"Lorna Doone," a strong drama of th» old English days, its gay courts, its knights and ladies, its robber barons, and its simple country life, will be shown at the Empress Theatre to-day, as the main attraction on the new programme. Blackmore's immortal classio and undying love story hae been exceedingly well adapted for the screen, resulting in an unusual production. The following is a summary of the story. Lornaj while travelling in a coach on a lonely road with her - mother, the Countess of Lome, is kidnapped by robber barons. The old chief comeu to love her as a daughter and protects her from the rest of the clan. Dying, he leaves her to a fate worse than death, but she is rescued by John Ridd, a simple country gentleman. The revelation of her birth takes her back to court, for her love for John Ridd is stronger than the lure of wealth, and she gives up all to return to him Albo on the programme is Harokl Lloyd in "Numberj Please."
