: , DUNEDIN,. loth May. The first day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club's Winter Meeting was held in fine weather, and on a course that had dried rapidly, but which, was never in bad order. There wbb a good attendance, atid the tbtalisator handled £23,934, compared with £26,777 for the corresponding day last year. Results :— Bayficld Handicap, of 200 soys; one [mile and five furlongs.—Lady Elwood, scr, 1; Bon Sonty, 132yd 8 behind, 2; Ladycliff, 24yds behind, 3. ' Won by four lengths, with two lengths between second and third. Time, 4min 4 l-ssec. Domain Handicap, of 225 sovsj one mile and a furlong.—Quiver, scr, 1; Bar^ eelona, sor, 2; Wild Pointer, 24yds behind, 3. Forbury weighed out, but on being found to be lame, the stewards permitted him to be withdrawn at the trainer's request. Won by four lengths, with two "lengths between .second and third. As they finished the six furlong's Taraire was then lying fifth, and entering the last lap Taraire was third and Pedro Pronto died away with three furlongs to go, leaving Jack Arrah in the lead from Taraire and Lady Joan. Taraire just led Jack Arrah into the straight. The latter stopped at the distance, and Taraire came home four lengths in front of Lady Joan. Willie Lincoln was two lengths away third, and Grand Denver was fourth.
