NEW ZEALAND UNION EXECUTIVE

The Management Commfittee of the New Zealand Rugby Union transacted a good deal of detailed business at its meeting last night. The members present were: Messrs. S. S. Dean (chairman), W. S. Glenn, M.P., E. A. Little, E. Wylie, W. Hornig, T. A.--Fletcher, A. C. Kitto, and E. M'Kenzie (Wairarapa). A recommendation from the annual meeting, that five selectors be appointed for each island—three from central unions and two from country unions— and that from these, selectors of the New Zealand representative team be chosen, was adopted. On the motion of Mr. M'Kenzie, it was decided that the Rugby unions of New Zealand be asked to nominate candidates suitable for the post of selector. The previous resolution of the committee, in regard to reinstatements, was rescinded, and it was decided to deal with applications on their merits. Mr. Glenn addressed the meeting on the question of securing the interest and co-operation of all old players, in bringing out or improving players. The committee heartily commended the project, and it was decided to circularise the unions on the subject. The question of thes amusement tax on Rugby was considered. The chairman said that a deputation from the annual meeting waited on the Hon. j. G. Coates, who promised to look into the question, to get information as to the amount of the tax. and to make representations to the Prime Minister. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of Mr. Glenn, a member of the committee. Messrs. Dean and Hornig were appointed to the Olympic Council. The matter of the appointment of a representative of the union in Sydney was held over till the arrival of tile New South Wales team. The question of the grant for primary schools Rugby in Otago was held over, pending receipt of a letter from that union. The following sub-committees were appointed:— Co-ordinating By-laws: The chairman, secretary, and Mr. T. A. Fletcher (representing the Referees' Association). Finance: Chairman, Messrs. Little and Wylie. Referees' Appointment Board: Messrs. Little and Wylie (one to be appointed by the Referees' Association). Moascar Cup: Messrs. Little, Hornig, and Kitto. It was decided to ask the Manawatu and Waikato Unions if they would have a match with the Maori team on 6th June at Hamilton; also to inquire. from them as to the prospects of a "gate." With regard to the tour of the New South Wales team, it was decided to ask the' New South Wales Rugby Union if they would agree to play two matches in New Zealand extra to the approved itinerary. A communication was received from Paris, intimating that a Rugby Union had been formed in Spain.
