Mayoralty:— J. A. Flesher (Citizens') 10,312 D. G. Sullivan, M.P. (Labour) 8,395 Mr. Fleshor has been Deputy-Mayor for the last two years. The voting being on the proportional representation system, it will be some days before the personnel of the new council is known. The indications last night were that the Citizens' Association will have increased strength' on the new council. . On the Erst preference votes, the following- are elected:—John Anderson, C. P. Agar, J. W. Beanland (Citizens' Association candidates), H. T. Armstrong, M.P., Rev. J. K. Archer (Labour candidates). A/poll was taken to-day on a proposal put forward by the City Council to raise a loan of ±135,000 to establish a concert hall_ on the Manchester street site adjoining' the new muncitjial buildings, novy m course of erection. The poll was carried by a small majority, the figures being: For, 5624; against, 5512. There were no fewer than 1099 informal votes.
In the proportional representation poll for eight city seats on the Hospital Board. 17,488 valid votes were cast, and the position is that, the Rev. J. K. Archer, Dr. Fenwick, Mrs. Herbert, and Mr. H. J. Otley in that order have secured the quota, while the remainder are doubtful.
For four seats on the Harbour Board there were 16,619 valid votes and Mr. Holland and Mr. Armstrong. M.P., are elected, while Dr. Thaoker is likely to fill the third seat, and the fourth is doubtful. For one Harbour Board seat in the Lyttelton district, Mi-. M. J Miller defeated Mr. B. Hatchwell by a narrow margin.
