This morning a warrant was issued in Masterton. for the arrest of Ralph Percy Cook, accountant in the Municipal Gas Department, for the alleged theft of £54 10s sd. Cook had left for Christ church on Tuesday about an hour after the information had been laid. Before the warrant was acted upon the Masterton police received a telegram stating that Cook had given himself up to the Christchurch police, and stated that there were defalcations in the books in Masterton amounting to about £300. The Masterton police then notified Christchurch of the issue of the warrant in Masterton for Cook's arrest. Cook will be formally charged in Christchurch, and will probably be remanded to Masterton.
