ELEVEN MONTHS' FIGURES
IMPROVED BY NEARLY £5,000,000. A brief statement setting out the financial operations of the Government over a period of eleven months of the financial .year, which closes on 31st March next, was issued by the Prime Minister last evening. It ehowed that the revenue for the eleven months increased by £2,213,381, as' compared with the. first eleven months of 1921-22; while the expenditure was down by £2,454,071, making, on the balance, an improvement to the extent of £4,667,459. The details are: — The total revenue for the 11 months ended 28th February, 1923, was 22,440,189 For the corresponding period of the previous year 20,226,801 Increas* -. 2,213,388 \ . i The expenditure for the 11 months ended 28th February, 1923, was 22,588,243 j The expenditure for the corresponding period of the previous year was ........... 25,042,314 Decrease 2,454,071 Taking the two together, an improvement to the extent of 4,667,459 "The effect of the saving and reductions in expenditure is indicated by these figures," stated Mr. Massey, "but in order to stabilise the position and keep the' national expenditure within the national income, and so enaWe us to reduce taxation, a continuance of strict supervision over spending power is essential."
