ECONOMY CONFERENCE

DOMINIONS RESTIVE OVER DELAY EXPLANATION BY COLONIAL OFFICE. (UNITED P.IES3 ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.) (AUST&AIIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received 9th March, 1.30 p.m.) ; ( LONDON, Bth March. The Colonial Office has informed the Australian Press Agency that the holding xip of the Imperial Economy Conference was entirely due to circum-" stances beyond either the Dominions or Britain's control, notably the elections in Australia and New Zealand, the disturbed political conditions in Canadaand South Africa, and the impending j General Election in Newfoundland. This explanation was necessary because newspaper cables to Australia indicated that the Commonwealth was becoming impatient over the delay. Mr. Bonar Law, within a fortnight after the British elections,, communicated with the Dominions requesting their views upon the proposal to hold the Economic Conference in the April preceding the Imperial Conference, which was to take place in June. The Dominions' replies I'evea-led the impossibility of carrying out the programme," which had now been changed to a period between September and November, when it was proposed to hold both Conferences concurrently. It had been suggested that the economic experts should meet simultaneously with the Premiers, thereby shortening' the j proceedings.
