SWEDISH ENGINEERING COMPANY'S OFFEB. (UNITBB PRE3S ASSOCIATION.—COHRISST.) (AUTRAHAN - NEW ZEALAKS CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received 9th March, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Bth March. A Swedish engineering- company has offered to salvage a million pounds' worth of bullion sunk aboard the Egypt on 30th May, 1922. Captain Sir Frederick Young, who superintended the raising of the Vindictive and Oceanic, declares that twenty fathoms is the utmost depth wherefrom vessels can now be raised, whereas the Egypt lies in sixty-five fathoms. [The P. and 0. liner Egypt ■was sunk off Ushant after collision with a French vessel, 15 passengers and 80 of the crew being reported missing. The Court which inquired into the wreck found the loss of life was mainly due to the master and chief officer, and to the failure of the owners to take proper precautions. H.M.S. Vindictive was sunk at the entrance to Zeebrugge Harbour in 19Z7 with the object of blocking the fairway and preventing its use by German, submarines. The Oceanic, an auxiliary cruiser, was wrecked off the Scottish coast on Bth September, 1914. The vessel at the time of the wreck was carrying a considerable cargo of gold specie.)
