At Spencer (Tennessee) a farm owned by the family of the State Secretary, Mr. Haston, was the scene of wholesale shooting by a negro convict, who was on parole, and who called Mr. Haston's brother to the door and wounded^ him. The negro then fired at several persons who were rushing to the scene, fatally wounding the Secretary's mother and severely injuring three neighbours. Mt. Haston's sister-in-law dropped dead with fright. ■ The negro escaped but is being pursued by a posse.
