LUNACY LAWS
A PLEA FOR REFORM.
(»Y TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
AUCKLAND, This Day. A plea for the interest of various churches in bringing about reform of lunacy laws was made by the Rev. A. S. Wilson at the welcome to the delegates to the Congregational Conference. He emphasised the need for some institution at which borderland cases could be cared for in, preference to placing this type of unfortunate in tho present mental hospitals. The only hope for reform was with the Church, for the Government would do nothing. There was much* need for the Church to take thir matter up, and see that the laws and methods employed in connection with snsh capes was so amended that we would have highly-paid experts to deal with such unfortunate persons. A mental hoapita! was. bg place for them. Even a week in sacl surroundings would have a harmful effect on the average person.
