LAWN TENNIS
MRS. MALLORY AND MDLLE.
LENGLEN.
(UNWED TRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRIGHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) PARIS, 26th February. Mrs. Mallory at the last minute entered the La Festa tennis tournament at Monto Carlo. Tennis circles are excited at the probability of another match between Mrs. Mallory and Mdlle. Lenglen
Mrs. Mallory, the American champion, and Mdlle. Lenglen have met twice before. In 1921 the French player won the Wimbledon championship for the third year in succession, and Inter crossed the Atlantic in quest of the U.S.A. championship. She arrived only two days before the tournament began, and in her first match was drawn to play Mrs. Mallory. Playing fast and brilliant tennis the American won the opening set 6-2. It was the first set the Frenchwoman had ever lost — in an important match. She lost the first two games in the second set, and the first two points in the third, and retired, pleading that she was il] and could not go on. Last year Mdlle. Lenglen had ample revenge. In the Wimbledon championship, where by the way she won the singles,- doubles, and mixed doubles, she defeated Mrs. Mallory 6-2, 6-0.
