MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day, when police and maintenance rases were heard.
Two first offenders for drunkenness, who did not appear, were ordered to forfeit their bail, 10s in each instance. George Harley and Henry Boniface, making their third appearance for drunkenness, were each fined £1. in default three days' imprisonment.
Alfred Henry Patterson, for a similar offence, was fined £2. in default seven days' imprisonment.
Frederick George Stevens appeared on charges of drunkenness and assaulting George Yule. Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, who appeared for the accused, contended that Yule was a man who was easily affected by liquor, and who wajs very quarrelsome when drunk. He had recently been concerned in several assault cases. The Magistrate imposed a fine of ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment, on the drunkenness chargo, and £5, in default fourteen days' im-i prisonment, on tho other, count.
Archibald M'Naughton was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, on a charge of committing a breach of his prohibition order.
At Mount Cook Police Station to-day. before Mr. R. D. Hanlon. J.T.. Richard Johns, with two previous convictions for drunkenness, was fined 40s, in default seven days' imprisonment.
